There has been a lot of press recently about error 53 which can brick your iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S or iPhone 6S Plus. The Guardian and many other publications have recently wrote about this and we thought it was important to explain our views to our customers and the wider public.
Error 53 is not that new, we’ve been aware of this issue for 18 months already and it has and no impact on our business. The error relates only to the TouchID which is a fingerprint scanner located on the home button. If this button is damaged then the error will be triggered. While we are not a big fan of how Apple have implemented this safeguard, we do see the logic in ensuring that that the TouchID remains secure which it is why it is paired with the logic board of the phone. Only one home button will ever match your device.
Each month we repair thousands of devices and in the last 18 months error 53 has never been an issue for us as we are experts at handling sensitive electronics and flex cables. If we come across a phone with damage to the TouchID - less than 1% of the issues we see - then we always refer them directly to Apple where they can purchase an out of warranty replacement device.
