Jony Ive is in Time’s Top 100 Most Influential People in the world

Time magazine has just published its tenth annual list of the 'Top 100 Most Influential People in the World'. The list includes what Time believes are the world's most influential artists, leaders, titans, pioneers and icons. This year, Britain's own Jony Ive, Apple’s senior vice President of Industrial Design, is on the list. Bono, the U2 frontman (who had a close relationship with Steve Jobs and a long relationship with Apple for Bono’s Red Project), described Jony Ive for the list. Bono emphasizes Ive’s sense of simplicity and dedication:
Jony Ive is himself classic Apple. Brushed-steel, polished-glass hardware, complicated software honed to simplicity. His genius is not just his ability to see what others cannot, but also how he applies it. To watch him with his workmates in the holy of holies, Apple's design lab, or on a night out is to observe a very rare esprit de corps. They love their boss, and he loves them. What the competitors don't seem to understand is you cannot get people this smart to work this hard just for money. Jony is Obi-Wan. His team are Jedi whose nobility depends on the pursuit of greatness over profit, believing the latter will always follow the former, stubbornly passing up near-term good opportunities to pursue great ones in the distance. Jony’s values happen to add value — emotional and financial. It takes a unique alchemy of form and function for millions of people to feel so passionately about the robot in their pocket.
For me, it’s obvious that Jony Ive should be included in the list of the 100 most influential people in the world. As the head of the Apple design team, he is one of the most influential people to emerge over the last decade. He contributed to the creation, design and influence of the iMac, iPod, iPhone and iPad – totemic products used by hundreds of millions of people around the globe. And his influence will continue to grow in the future, because he has taken charge of the software side of Apple too, now. I am looking forward to seeing iOS 7 this year! Ive is listed in Artist category of the list, together with George Saunders (writer), Miguel and Frank Ocean (musicians), Jennifer Lawrence and Bryan Cranston (TV stars). Other tech gurus are listed as well, like Samsung CEO Oh-Hyun Kwon, Greenlight Capital hedge fund manager David Einhorn, Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, and Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.
